One of the hardest things for me to give up was cream in my coffee.
I hated milk in my coffee, nothing but 17% cream would do. However, since I no longer support the dairy industry, I’ve had to find some vegan replacements.
I’m not going to lie to you, there isn’t anything that tastes quite like it, but there are a few things that come close! Here is a list of my favourite vegan coffee options that I have tried so far on my plant-based journey.
Top 5 Vegan Coffee Creamers
- Califia Farms Almondmilk Creamer
This dairy-free creamer is majestic. I’m not sure how they did it, but its thick and creamy, and it STAYS THAT WAY when you put it in hot coffee, instead of just disappearing like some others. Its made with cane sugar, but its not very sweet at all.
For the time being, you’ll have to run down to Whole Foods in Bellingham for this one, but they sell it in big cartons, and its totally worth it. They let me know on instagram that they will be in Canada soon!
- Coconut Oil (pictured below)
Alright this one is a little strange, but trust me, you’re about to make some magic happen in your blender. Brew your coffee, and then pour a mug of it into your blender. Blend it up with about 2 tbsp of coconut oil, your sweetener of choice, and I like to add some cinnamon & vanilla. Then blend it on high for a few minutes, you will see it start to foam up like a rich creamy latte! Pour back into your mug and enjoy.
- Coconut Milk
If I’m too lazy to do the blender thing (even though it only takes 5 mins), sometimes I just put straight up canned coconut milk in. I scoop the thick part from the top and just stir in. Bonus: it adds some sweetness!
- Silk Hazlenut Almond Creamer
This is my second fave store-bought creamer. Its very important to get the Hazlenut flavour though, because all the other ones taste like total shit imo. The vanilla one is WAY too sweet, and both the plain one & the vanilla one have a chalky texture, leaving powdery bits in the bottom of my cup. Somehow the hazlenut one doesn’t do this.
- A good ol’ soy latte from Starbucks
If all else fails, a soy latte from Starbucks is damn delicious. Just remember that the soy milk itself is sweet, so you may not want syrup added in. I find vanilla syrup to be too much.
